running a MARATHON
is something i have often envied
and even more often
admired
to have such an accomplishment
under one's belt
days. hours. days. miles. days. weeks.
days. months.
of training
is beyond my capacity
and my comprehension
and so it has become
a celebrated event
for the many that can do
what i can not
(at least not yet)
monday, april 15, 2013
just as a few
runners were crossing the finish line
found their victory altered
two bombs, twelve seconds apart
exploded
injuring many
killing some
shocking a nation once again
how sad to know
that the very limbs
that carried
MARATHON runners to a victory
became detached in the act of terror
children cheering moms and dads
became
witnesses to the horrific scene
yet, the victory pressed on as
BOSTONIANSand MARATHON
staff
came to the aid of many
immediately
blood banks reached capacity
in efforts to help from afar
prayers of a nation
unfurled like the unfolding
of the stars and stripes
even the cool of the cool
expressed heartfelt sentiments in his own creative way
if only the perpetrators
realized
that
americans come together
and are strengthened in unity
at their destructive ploys
once again
america will
mourn the loss of loved ones
and then rise up
with an altered victory
of overcoming tragedy

and everywhere i go
flags
fly half mast
