SUNDOG

some of the most beautiful scenes
have taken place on my way to work
on this particular day
the clouds seemed to outline the mountains
there was a small break
where the sun peered through
the rays outstretched to earth
the color was a most interesting blue
i kept checking to see the quickly changing sky, i saw a ribbon of rainbow
by the time i reached daybreak,
there was a complete ring around
the sun
it was spectacular
so much so that i made a place to pull over
i showed my husband the photos
before i could even share
he put a name to the image
"sundog"
i had never heard the term
but this is what i discovered
from wiki

is an atmospheric phenomenon that creates bright spots of light in the sky,
often on a luminous ring or halo on either side of the sun.[3]
Sundogs may appear as a colored patch of light
to the left or right of the sun,
22° distant and at the same distance
above the horizon as the sun, and in ice halos.
They can be seen anywhere in the world during any season,
but they are not always obvious or bright.
Sundogs are best seen and are most conspicuous when the sun is low.
