yesterday

i received the ultimate compliment from a studen

it was enough to fuel a desire

for another great outfit 

the

'80's

i was around in the

'80's

the 80's was so me
this should have been easy
but it wasn't
preppy
punk rock
madonna
aerobic leg warmer tights gal
tight 501 shrink to fit
the big, no huge hair
shiny and sparkly
choices
and just what did i come up with?

i went sparkly

add black leggings

multi colored leg warmers

combat boots

shiny belt

and oversized shirt

way cool hat

it was barbie or hello kitty

i went barbie

over big poofy stiff hair

heart earring and heart necklace

(hearts were popular

and my last name being "hart"

meant...i wore lots of hearts)

the ensemble

and cyndi lauper

"girls just wanna have fun"

and boy did we ever

 dancin' to the '80's

bee gees

more abba

madonna

mr. d plays mc hammar

"don't touch this"

 (oh...the pain...i had forgotten that heavy earrings hurt)

70's DAY

after yesterday's forgetfulness

i was determined to return in proper attire

noah was not happy to have another

bout to the d.i.

only a minute means nothing to him

(a minute is really an hour in mother time

and a minute is an hour in child's time

and so i calculate...

a little over 60 hours to noah)

as i drove home

thrilled by my purchase

panic set in

i think i remembered the wrong era

did i just buy '60s clothing?

resolve

if perchance i forgot the era

i remember people telling me

"people in idaho are ten years behind the time"

if that is true

i am right on course

utah's '70s

is idaho's '60s

(floral free spirit frock over a white t-shirt
bell bottoms

boots
beads
choker
hoop earrings
smokey eyes and frosted lips
stick straight hair
braid


put it all together and you have

and i am even more sure 

that my mind is closer to '50s than i thought !
oh what fun

SPIRIT WEEK BEGINS IN THE '50's

i did and do have spirit

maybe turning 50 in a year has created

selective memory
in me

i left my spirit at home today
so i created an imaginary one

nieces madeline and mallory

many years ago

if you can get beyond the big hair
and add
my jenny penny
this takes on special significance
within the year
madeline and mallory
got married a week a part

by july,
jordan married his bride

and jenny penny
has been called on a mission
to honduras
first girl
first to go to the MTC
outside of the united states

though time has passed so quickly

their happiness means the world to me

clearly, there will be more weddings and missions
and i will be there to celebrate with each
niece and nephew
(several more have been added)

TENDER MERCY, TIME, TIME AGAIN

i would like to introduce you to mr. and mrs. tender mercy

they operate pretty much

like the tooth fairy,

the easter bunny and santa claus

they come when your not watching

and leave a little something

that just happens to be the very need

you thought you would have to do without

sometimes it is

a christmas sweater

left in the car the day before the school was having

christmas sweater day

sometimes it is

a full tank that is magically filled

while i'm inside working with students

sometimes

it is the numerous twentys

to pay a bill, go to a movie, pick up prescriptions,

sometimes

it is the run of the vacuum

the sweep of the leaves

the shoveling of snow

the taking out or bringing in the garbage

sometimes

it a tub of soup, salami, cranberry juice, 

and a roll of toilet paper

sometimes

i am sure i must be crazy

and then i see a bit of evidence

and then i know

mr. and mrs. tender mercy

have been about

delivering of their goodness

my parents have a motto

leave things better than you found them

and the always do

mr. and mrs. tender mercy came today

how do i know

evidence
was left in the snow

it is great to be loved

BLUE SKY AND 44 DEGREES

BLUE SKIES

after a month

of white

inversion

and smog

it was nice to have

february begin

feeling blue

after a month 

below freezing temperatures

it was awesome

to have 44 wonderful degrees

of pure sunshine


noah even asked if it would be alright to walk home from school

i rolled down my window

and went for a ride

it felt amazing

EMPTY NESTERS

when most people say

"we are empty nesters"

they mean their children

have come to age

to leave home for a home of their own

noah is almost 10 years old
 and so that is not our plight

i am referring to our three chickens

they have found a new coop

i am feeling a bit saddened

no more rooster sounds

no more litle eggs

no more little feather dances
and yet i am happy
more room to roam

more natural habitat

more of their own kind
farewell our fine feathered friends
